STANDING COMMITTEES
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES COMMITTEE
Members with Disabilities of the Capilano Students' Union
The Students with Disabilities Committee gives a voice to all disabled students on campus. It is composed of all self-identifying student members. We aim to represent the range of disabled experience equality.
Our primary concerns are:
- Working on all issues relevant to students with disabilities
- Promoting the equality and the elimination of oppression of all people with disabilities
- Organizing awareness campaigns
- Encouraging the participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of the CSU’s operation
We address these issues and goals through our regular meetings and social events. The range of methods for raising awareness is limited only by our own creativity.
To get involved, contact the Students with Disabilities' Liaison Sean Stewart at abilities@csu.bc.ca and be sure to check out our Facebook Page at www.csu.bc.ca/abilities
Equal Access
The Union will strive to provide full, fair and equal access for members with self-identified disabilities in activities, campaigns and services. The Union shall uphold the rights articulated in the declaration of students' rights. The Union must provide reasonable accommodation as defined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, to the point of undue hardship. The Union shall:
- hold all Union organized, sponsored and endorsed events in locations that are physically accessible.
- make accommodations such as providing a sign language interpreter, assisted learning devices, enlarged print materials and physical modification to Union areas as requested.
- provide accessible transportation to off campus events.
- modify bylaws and policies concerning executive director duties and responsibilities as required.
- advertise an equal access statement on all materials announcing Union events.
Please contact the CSU's Organizer Richard at organizer@csu.bc.ca or 604-983-7580 to learn more or make a request for accessibility support.
